Relay For Life wants ‘more birthdays’

By Alyssa Schafer, Editor

When temperatures are below zero, an outdoor relay is the last thing on most people’s minds. But for McLean County Relay For Life event planners, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about the annual event that brings together people from across the county to fight cancer. This year, the relay will be held from 6 p.m. June 4 to 6 a.m. June 5 at the Underwood High School track. For the first time, Underwood is hosting the event, which was held in Washburn last year. An event of this magnitude takes months of planning, and Event Chair Renee Fransen said now is the time for people to be organizing and registering their teams. Thirteen teams were registered during last week’s Relay For Life kickoff at Underwood School. "We’ve got to do some more forming of teams around the area," Fransen said. "We want to gather a bunch of people whose passion is fighting cancer."
