Santa Day adds new events

By Julie Arbach

There’s a whole weekend of traditional, along with some new, events planned for the Underwood Civic Club’s Santa Day on Dec. 13 and Community Christmas Concert on Dec. 14. This year Kids’ Shopping Day will take place on the same day as Santa’s visit, but new events have been added to provide a day full of fun for the whole family. Jen Olson, a member of the civic club’s Christmas committee, said parents should bring their children to the Underwood City Hall on Saturday morning, where chaperones will meet them and take them to the shopping destination of their choice. Shopping will begin at 10 a.m. and run until noon, with free gift wrapping provided at city hall, after children have purchased their gifts. The civic club will match every $1 with 50 cents, so children will get one and a half times their money to buy gifts with Underwood Bucks. "We are asking the various businesses to have notebooks out so parents can go in and select items that they would like prior to the kids going shopping," said Olson. "When the children arrive for Kids’ Shopping, they will be given a copy of where parents have registered for gifts." There is even something for parents to do while their kids are shopping. "There will be a Winter Wonderland in the gym at city hall," said Olson. "We are asking the various businesses and organizations to decorate trees, which will be displayed in the city hall that day and people can vote on them."
