School reno project just shy of $2 million

Some bids came in a little higher than expected; some came in a little lower than expected.

When the final bids of the 98 total that were submitted, the school board approved spending Just over $1.9 million on the school’s new addition to the east side of the school building.

When all is said and done, though, adding on design fees and other items that typically come up with construction costs, the bill will probably ring up to closer to $2.17 million.

"There were 28 different spec areas," noted Supt. Brandt Dick. "Some that were low, some came in higher, so when all is said and done, from where we were at our February estimate, it came in about $40,000 less than what we had budgeted at that point."

The addition is being paid for using $55,000 from energy land grant funds, and the school will be selling bonds against the building fund (somewhere between $1 and $1.5 million). The school is also anticipating getting $500,000 from a coal trust loan at about 2 percent interest over the next 20 years.

There is also $500,000 of ending fund monies that the school plans to use toward the project.
