Shoppers make a haul at the fire hall

The early bird is known to get the worm. Next week, the early bird shoppers will be the ones who rake in the biggest and best bargains at the Underwood Fire, Ambulance and Rescue fundraiser rummage sale, starting Thursday, June 13 at 4:30 p.m.
The fundraiser rummage sale is part of Underwood’s city-wide rummage sales that are being held during the McLean County Fair. Most sales will be Friday and Saturday of the fair, but fire department fundraiser organizers figured holding an early-bird sale would be a great way to kick off the sale and maybe bring in some shoppers who aren’t able to come during the fair.
The fundraiser rummage sale is the first event a group of ambulance squad supporters is setting up to help the volunteer department pay for additional needs that come up as the department makes improvements to the fire hall. Lockers have already been installed in the building, and the department is going to be adding a kitchen and a sleeping/living quarters to the fire hall soon.
The fire department’s board of directors approved funding of the project, noted rummage sale co-organizer Patti Werre, but there will undoubtedly be expenses that pop up that weren’t planned for.
