Slowing traffic to save lives

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Several 911 calls were received  at about 6:45 p.m. Feb. 9, after a semi collided with a pickup truck at the southern entrance to Underwood along US Hwy 83. The driver of the pickup, who was from Brainerd, Minn., was cited with failure to yield when he pulled out onto the highway in front of the semi, which was driven by a Forbes, N.D., driver. Officers first reported no injuries, later one driver was taken to Minot for injuries. The call for service did not detail which person received injuries. Underwood Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to the scene, as well as a McLean County deputy and a North Dakota Highway Patrol officer. The accident is not uncommon for the busy entrance and another accident occurred several months ago at the same point. The likelihood of an accident happening again has the City of Underwood looking at ways to slow down traffic at the intersection.
