St. John's supper to benefit food pantry

By Julie Arbach

Congregation members of St. John’s Lutheran Church are donating food and labor to put on a supper for the community and to benefit the McLean Family Resource Center’s food pantry. Pastor Dean Hartley of St. John’s Lutheran Church said all the money donated from a free will offering to be collected at the community supper will be matched by Thrivent for Lutherans up to $1,600. "There won’t be any expense taken out of the money that is collected," said Hartley. It is a perfect opportunity to double any charitable gift you may want to give. "We thought about giving food items," said Hartley. "But decided if we give them cash they can purchase what is needed the most." McLean Family Resource Center Director Jenell Olson said they are grateful for whatever help they receive, whether it is food items or cash, but she said the Center can make cash go a lot further because of their purchasing power and needs change on a weekly basis.
