Students thank snow removal personnel

By Julie Arbach

Some of the best gifts come in small packages and last week, Underwood’s City Maintenance Supervisor Jerry Radke, along with county and state snow removal crews, received one of those gifts. Radke said the Underwood’s Guidance Counselor, Kim Wirtz, delivered an envelope stuffed with thank you notes and pictures to his front door. Wirtz was the courier for elementary students in grades K-6. Wirtz said it was the Underwood Elementary Student Council that decided to acknowledge the hard work of local and area snow removal crews. Students in K-6 all contributed in some shape or form to the art work and notes of appreciation. Radke was thrilled with the students’ cards and artwork. "I didn’t know what was in the package, I went inside and opened it after Kim Wirtz delivered it and started reading them," said Radke. "I said to my wife Janine, wow look at what these kids did, I thought it was really nice." Radke said the students thanked him for keeping the roads open and safe and some were grateful for the sledding hills that he has created for them at various locations in town.
