As of Tuesday morning, Underwood residents were being advised that they could run drinking water out of the tap without having to boil it first, as the city continued its recovery from a complete water shut-down after a series of water main breaks starting about 2:30 Friday morning.
Following the first report of a water line break on Grant Ave., city crews responded to another break at about 8:30 a.m. on Sayler St.  south of the football field, and a third on First St. near Hillside Apartments by about 9:15 a.m.
It was around 10 a.m. that the decision was made to shut down the water to the city after it was discovered that 81,000 gallons of water had already been drained from the water reservoir.
“It was just easier to shut everything down and get a grip on the whole situation,” said Underwood Mayor Leon Weisenburger.
