TL summer rec adjusts to COVID-19

When working with kids, there’s only so much one can do to keep the “social distancing” intact. With that knowledge, Kate Hanson, Turtle Lake’s summer rec coordinator is
doing what she can to keep the kiddos safe as they hit the T-ball/baseball/softball field this year. There is hand sanitizer at the ready, and the kids will be reminded not to be “hanging’ on each other,” she said with a laugh. Other than that, there’s not a whole lot she can do other than have them working in small groups. Turtle Lake’s rec program includes T-ball for 4-6-yearolds, Pee Wee baseball for 7-9-year-olds, Little League baseball for 10-12-year-olds, and fast-pitch softball for 9-12-year-olds, as well as 13 year-and-older girls. With the coronavirus always in the back of her mind, Hanson visited with parents and park board members about how to move forward with this season, entertaining the thought of
not having a summer rec season for just a moment. “It was a hard decision to make,” she said.
