Turning tees into treasures

Two Underwood students have found a way to save those favorite t-shirts that are just a little too worn out to wear in public anymore. They’ll turn them into something usable, saving folks from tossing their treasured tees in the trash.

Miranda Ziegler and Isabella Rojas recently started repurposing T-shirts into swimsuit cover-ups – just one facet of their business, Phelps Handmade Treasurers.

Miranda says she has been repurposing T-shirts for years, but just a couple weeks ago, as part of her entrepreneurial fair project at school, she joined forces with Isabella (Bella) to repurpose other people’s T-shirts into swimsuit cover-ups.

"When I was bored when I was about 10 I cut up some of my T-shirts to make swimsuit cover-ups," said Miranda. "My mom wasn’t really happy, but they looked cute."

Since then, she has created new cover-ups for herself every summer, making one-of-a-kind creations with different cuts and ties throughout the tees.
