Turtle Lake infrastructure improvements main city topics

Construction has stopped on the new Turtle Lake water tower, and the city leaders are working with the contractor to determine when it will be finished.
At the Dec. 9 city commission meeting in Turtle Lake, the commissioners discussed the water tower project.
“We assume the contractor took on too much work and had several projects that didn’t get done – we’re working with the contractor on a 2020 project start-up date, and completion date,” commented city auditor Darwin Saari. “We’re shooting for Aug. 1 for a completion date.”
The city could receive some liquidated damages if the city incurs unexpected expenses due to the delay in completion of the project, noted Saari, but that has yet to be determined.
The city is entering into a contract for engineering services with Moore Engineering for storm water improvements as the city works on maintaining its infrastructure and dealing with drainage issues.
The city received its official tax levies from the county from McLean County Auditor Beth Knutson. The total mills the city is levying is 47-07, totaling just over $59,000. The majority of the tax levy is going to the general fund which is levying 36.21 mills or $45,600.
