UAEDC granted increased budget request

By Julie Arbach

Underwood City Commissioners made a commitment to continue support of the city’s economic development efforts on Monday night. The commission granted an increase of $40,000 to the Underwood Area Economic Development Association. UAEDC Vice President Bob Larson and Becky Bowen, Underwood’s Community and Economic Development Specialist, were at the meeting to make the annual budget request on behalf of the UAEDC. The 2009 budget for the UAEDC was presented by Bowen and had been approved by the UAEDC board at an earlier meeting in February. "This year we are asking for an additional $40,000 above and beyond what they have asked from the city in the past," said Bowen. Bowen then presented budget figures, explaining that membership income is running about $3,000. The group is also hoping for an additional $173,000 in grants. Total operating income in the budget for 2009 was estimated at $288,100 and expenses of $295,465, which includes the $120,000 loan fund.
