It wouldn’t have been a 2020 graduation ceremony if the coronavirus wasn’t mentioned. Underwood Valedictorian Mason Hornberger nailed his commentary on the virus, proudly telling the audience that the Underwood Class of 2020 “pulled off a legendary senior skip day” as they celebrated their commencement a month after it was originally scheduled, and about three months since their last in-the-classroom day of school. He touched on a few memories of their years at Underwood, touching on how they finished their senior year with distance learning, before telling his classmates and the audience that if they were able to survive a worldwide pandemic shutting down the country, he figured they would be alright. In her closing address, fellow senior Lauren Jacobson urged her classmates to “dare to be different -- never allow peer pressure to take over your individual thoughts and ideas,” encouraging her classmates to believe in themselves.
