Underwood celebrates Harvest Fest this Saturday

By Brenda L. Shelkey

Whether this year’s Harvest Fest goers are early risers or late night owls, each person will be able to find something to spark their interest during the Aug. 8 celebration. Harvest Fest president Jane Rademacher said, "It’s going to be a wonderful day." The day begins early Saturday morning with a 5K Run/ Walk/ Bike event, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Those interested in their health and some exercise can call Katie Heger at 442-3170 or Kelly Ruff at 442-3423. Pre-registration will be at Pioneer Park beginning at 8 a.m. What a great way to start the day! For the 55 and older crowd, the Senior Scavenger Hunt will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. The Seniors will be scavenging for Underwood Merchant Bucks being hidden in participating businesses and has been a popular event with the seniors. Around 9:45 parade entries will begin lining up at the school with the annual Harvest Fest parade set to begin at 10:30 a.m. The dedication of the Veterans Memorial Park has been postponed until next year during the all-school reunion being held during the week of Harvest Fest. The Kiddie Quest, for children aged one to eight, will begin about 11:45 a.m. The youngest questers will meet under the tent. There will be no charge for the Kiddie Quest which will be run similar to the way it was last year. Parents are encouraged to supervise and help with the event. Prizes will be awarded at each station. The clang of metal against metal will be that of horseshoes encircling the posts for points and will signal the beginning of the Horseshoe Tournament. It will start at noon at the site across from the post office. Teams of two can call Kapanke’s at 442-3468 to register for the event.
