Underwood shelters travelers from the storm

By Michael Johnson, Editor

A Friday morning snow storm quickly turned into a whiteout as thousands of home-bound students took to the road for Spring Break. The result of the storm closed I-94 from Dickinson to Fargo, U.S. Hwy 83 from Minot to the South Dakota border and all places in between had near zero visibility as the winds howled up to 64 miles per hour in some parts of the county. The result was about 800 travelers being rescued from roadways from Friday until Saturday morning. Locally, that meant that it didn’t take long for the Lincoln Park Motel or the Underwood Inn to fill up in Underwood on Friday afternoon. After a couple hours of snow it was clear that the Underwood City Hall was going to be filled up, too.
