Underwood water restrictions in place due to Riverdale water treatment issues

Issues Riverdale water treatment plant will likely be extended, causing water restrictions in both Riverdale and Underwood.
In a recent social media post from Riverdale electrical staff Tony Ganje, and shared by the city of Underwood, Ganje explained water reduction has helped the situation, but noted the issue won’t go away “anytime soon.”
“The reduced water usage over the last several weeks has helped us stop the degradation of our filtering membranes, but the problem still exists,” Ganje wrote. “The amount of water we are producing today requires our operator to clean the membranes everyday instead of the normal every two weeks.”
Ganje said the main issue is algae in Fort Peck and Lake Sakakawea.
“There is algae in Fort Peck and Lake Sakakawea, which means it’s not going away anytime soon,” Ganje stated. “We ae still working with engineers to develop a solution, but until that time, we ask that you continue to be mindful of your water usage.”
The city of Underwood, in sharing the social media statement, said they “promise we’re keeping our ears to the ground and phones close for updates.”
“As soon as there is an update to share, we will provide it in a timely manner,” Underwood officials stated. “We appreciate everyone’s patience – we know waiting for updates is never the most exciting part of anyone’s day.”
The city of Underwood advised anyone with questions to contact the city of Riverdale at 701-654-7636 or by email at riverdale@westriv.com.
