Father Patrick Cunningham took possibly the longest route possible to get to the priesthood, but he’s thrilled to finally be there, and here, in Underwood.
Father Cunningham, who was ordained June 13 in Bismarck along with five other men, started his journey to the priesthood when he was a freshman in high school. He was determined he was going to be a priest already at that young age, and he completed two years of seminary.
That summer he would meet the young lady who would turn his life around.
He was attending a church picnic back at his home town in Kansas with his family when he met the young lady who would become his wife. His sisters had mentioned a new friend of theirs that he should meet, but he was not interested. He was intent on going back to the seminary for his junior year.
