What’s your fair story?

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Most everyone has gone to a fair at some time in their life. There are those great experiences you can’t forget like eating that massive hot dog or going on the tilt-a-whirl. And then there are those other experiences where the the mixture of food and the ride didn’t go so well. At any rate, the fair is a place where memories are made and this year’s McLean County Fair in Underwood is sure to make some more memories for you and the family. With a line-up of rides, games, food, entertainment and fun for three days there’s no reason to miss out. Members of the McLean County Fair Board are no strangers to the pleasures of a good fair. They’ve been working hard out at the fairgrounds to bring out another good year. But before the grand event takes place they shared some of the great memories they have had at the fair. Those memories are the reasons they continue to work to make each year a great place for the surrounding communities to gather. What’s the fair all about? "It’s about riding to the top of the Ferris wheel with your girl friend," fair board president Diane Schell said. Schell has been the fair board president for the last four years and is pleased with this year’s line-up of entertainment for the whole family. Some of which is still the same from 40 years ago. Some of her fondest memories of the fair include holding on for dear life as she went around the Merry-Go-Round. She remembers her cousin becoming the 4-H king and thinking that there was no one cooler than the 4-H king. She even remembers her first date at the McLean County Fair.
