Boys start the new year with a win

By Mary Hefta, BHG News Service

Although the Comets led the entire game against the visiting Drake-Anamoose Raiders, the Underwood Comets boys basketball team was never in a position to relax. The Raiders, who had answers to many of the Comets’ baskets, never let Underwood lead by more than 10.  At one point near the middle of the fourth quarter, the Raiders were only down by three. Senior Dillon Aldinger, juniors Jeremy Wirtz and Aaron Morman were able to drop a few treys in the hoop, while senior Nick Lee drove the lane several times for two-point baskets.  Senior Matt Landenberger not only had some big drives up the middle of the lane but he also had 10 assists in this big non-conference win. Free throws played a huge part in the victory near the end of the game as Drake-Anamoose committed enough fouls to put the Comets in the double bonus situation. Underwood capitalized on these free throws making eight of 10 in the last two minutes of regulation.
