Central McLean Region 6 champs!

By Mary Hefta

The Central McLean Cougars, looking to finish the regular season with an undefeated record, traveled to Wilton to play the Wilton –Wing Miners last Thursday night in the final regular season matchup in Region 6 nine man football action. The Cougar offense dominated the first two quarters of play, garnering all 40 points in the first half. The Cougars kicked off first and Wilton threatened with a few good pass plays. However, the Cougar defense was able to keep the Miners away from their end zone after senior Sam Hultberg intercepted a Wilton -Wing pass on the Miner 40-yard line. The Cougars did not score on their first offensive possession of the game but junior Brandon Bott nabbed an interception on the Miner 18-yard line. That take-away set up Hultberg’s 10-yard fulback blast touchdown run. The Cougars took the lead 6-0 with 6:21 left in the first quarter. Senior Reed Hefta recovered a fumble on the next Miner’s offensive series at the 43-yard line of Wilton-Wing. On the next set of downs, junior Grant Singer, on third and four, dashed 37 yards into the end zone for six more points. Hultberg bullied in the end zone for the two-point conversion. The Cougars led 14-0.
