Comet boys corral the Mavericks

The Underwood boys basketball team headed north to Mohall on Monday night for a non-conference game against the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood Mavericks. The Comets played well in the first half leading by 14 at the break. Head coach Kyle Hunt explained, “It was a nail-biter at the end. We missed free throws down the stretch and if we would have made them the game wouldn’t have been that close.” He added, “We were up by two with four seconds left and we missed our free throws.”  He finished, “Luckily the Mavericks were unable to get a shot off in the final seconds.” The head coach praised his kids, “We played very well in the first half.  We executed our half court defense very well in the first part of the game and we made a good percentage of our shots.” However, Hunt added, “We let them back in the second half but we weathered the storm to hold on for the win.” Hunt was pleased with the effort of his boys, noting seniors Matt Landenberger and Nick Lee’s three-point shooting. “Both Matt and Nick hit some big three-pointers in the fourth quarter.” Hunt finished, “Hopefully this gets us on track for the final push of the season.”
