The Underwood Comets picked up a win on their home court Monday night, knocking off District 10 rival Center-Stanton by the score of 59-44, a nice margin of victory as the Comets look toward peaking right around district time.

Key for the Comets in the win was the fact that three players were zeroing in on the hoop, as Parker Heger knocked in 19 points, Zach Cottingham 18 and Nick Dammen 10, giving the Comets both an inside and outside offensive threat.

The Comets had a quick start, taking a 25-12 lead by half-time, but the beginning of the second half, the ball wasn’t falling through the hoop as well, as the Miners closed the gap to eight points by the end of the third quarter.

"We just weren’t finishing the play," said Underwood coach Steve Cottingham.

"We struggled to finish things off inside . . . we had our chances, but for whatever reason, it’s one of those things where things just weren’t falling."

The game is a game of streaks, he added.
