Comet girls off to fast start

The Comet girls took a big bite out of the competition Friday and Saturday, as they got their first tastes of what the 2017-18 hoops season will be like.
The Comets started out slowly against Glen Ullin-Hebron Friday night at the McLean County Shootout in Wilton, leading by just three at halftime. A second-half rally spurred the Comets on to a 46-37 win.
Saturday’s outing against Beulah saw things firing on all cylinders as the Comets easily bumped off the Miners by the score of 56-28.
The long ball was key for the Comets in both wins, as senior guard McKenna Wilson tossed in four three-pointers against Glen Ullin, then four more against Beulah, while Maggie Eng tossed in six of the long shots against Beulah, tallying 22 points for the game.
After shaking the first-game jitters off, things moved more smoothly for the Comets against Beulah.
“From start to finish it was much better,” said Underwood Coach Jared Kautzman. “We held them to 27 points. When you do that, it’s a good defensive effort.”
