Comet girls seeing highs, lows on hard court

By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

The Comet girls avenged their county tournament loss to Wilton-Wing this past week, edging the home-standing Miners in a barn burner 47-46 last Thursday, finishing the week at 1-2 on the hard court. Earlier action this past week saw the Comets fall to a tough Grant County team 53-49, then they finished the week’s action Friday night with a 71-37 drubbing by Shiloh as the Skyhawks shot the lights out, hitting 52 percent of their field goals on a 27-52 effort. Despite the losses to the Skyhawks and Grant County, Comet coach Toni Cottingham is focusing on what the team can learn when it takes on teams like Shiloh and Grant County. “Playing solid basketball teams at mid to late season is a great opportunity for us to compete at a high level, learn from our mistakes and continue to improve,” noted Cottingham. Improving ball handling is key for the Comets, who struggled to control the ball in all three games, committing 18 turnovers against Grant County, 27 against Wilton and 24 against Shiloh.
