Comet netters split

By Mary Hefta

I learned a valuable lesson last week in Wilton. Things have changed so much since I coached in the 90s and I was so totally wrapped up in the warm up routine that I forgot that a serving warm up is now added into the 16 minute warm up phase of the match. Needless to say I didn’t give my players time to warm up for their serving and a lesson was learned…in volleyball one must warm up their arm to be a successful serving team. We didn’t really have that many serving errors but I felt terrible. Wilton-Wing played one heck of a match and deserved their victory last Thursday night. The Comets need to up their level of play, as their five district matches will count towards district standings and will begin on Sept. 29 against Garrison. The Comets spent most of the night on defense. Senior Becca Lawson garnered 24 digs while junior Chlorisa Hirshkorn added 17. Junior Miranda Pochant tallied 14 digs while sophomore Taylor Sorensen dug up 13 hard driven balls. Junior Alix Auck had five blocks while senior setter Crystal Dammen added a block to her stats.
