Comets beat the Troopers for region seat

By Mary Hefta, BHG News Service

The Underwood girls basketball team found themselves in a must-win situation Monday night to continue their post-season play.  The Comets, in one of the two Region 5 qualifying games, played the Garrison Lady Troopers in the second game of the night. The Troopers won the tip but sophomore Abby Landenberger was able to steal the ball and add a nifty assist to her stats with a pass to freshman Erin Dammann. Junior Sam Cottingham hit one of her signature 3-pointers from the left side and the Comets led 5-2.  The Comets led after one 9-6. Garrison took possession at the beginning of the second quarter but it was déjà vu as Landenberger once again swiped the ball from the Troopers and took it end-for-end for two.  The Troopers lead 12-11 with 5:03 left in the second quarter, but freshman Krista Blotske added a 2-point shot as well as an assist to senior Taylor Sorensen.  The Comets never trailed again in the ball game. It took nearly four minutes for either team to score in the third quarter.  The Comets, led by Landenberger, tossed in four points to lead 21-12. The sophomore passed to fellow sophomore Emma Lee for two and added another 2-point shot on a put-back shot to lead 25-14 at the quarter break.  Garrison squeaked in a mere bucket in the third quarter.
