Barring any strange upsets, the Underwood Comets will be the fifth seed going into this week’s regional tournament in Washburn, taking on Wilton-Wing, with the game starting at about 4:30 or 5 p.m., depending on the length of the preceding game.
The Comets had yet to play Washburn at deadline, but looked to be going into the tournament on a high after topping New Salem-Almont 3-0 in Underwood last Tuesday.
“We really needed to play well in that match,” commented Underwood Coach Mary Hefta. “It was senior night and all the seniors played well.
“Our middles played tough with lots of kills and blocks,” she added.
Hefta wasn’t looking past the last regular-season game against Washburn, but having already clinched a spot in the regional tournament, she did have regionals on her mind.
“(Wilton) beat us in regular season play and we’re ready to put up a good fight to get into the semi finals,” said Hefta.
