Comets fall to hard-hitting Cardinals

By Michael Johnson, Editor

After a long tough travel day and match with Drake-Anamoose last Monday night, the Comets traveled to Washburn for their second district-counting match against the Cardinals. Washburn has been an improving team this season. The team has some solid hitters in Spanky Clayton and Cori Moberg. It was enough that the Comets could not overcome, though they tried their best to do so. “Although we didn’t have a lot of serving errors, we were low in the ace column and that is usually a pretty good statistic for us,” head coach Mary Hefta said. “Freshman Erin Dammann and junior Caitlyn Berg had good games in the front row with a few kills and some big blocks. We are still getting kills from several players and I feel good about the last six matches of our regular season.” The Comets came out with their best game right away as they worked to dig themselves out from under the consistent hits from Washburn. The first set ended with Cardinals up 25-22.
