Comets falter in final regular matches

The Underwood Comets will be adjusting their game to whomever they play in Thursday’s District 10 tournament, but Comet coach Mary Hefta knows one thing regardless of who they play.
"Whoever we play, we have to bring our game," said the veteran coach. "We don’t want to be playing in a play-in game, we want to be in the championship match. That’s the goal."
The Comets struggled against some heavy hitters this past week in nondistrict action as they closed out the regular season with two road games.
They fell to Kidder County 3-0 last Tuesday before taking on Shiloh in Bismarck Thursday. Underwood won the first set against the Skyhawks 25-17, but fell in the next three, losing the match 3-1. Sophomore Brooke Weisenberger was named Player of the Game at Shiloh.
Game one of the match against Kidder County saw rally after rally before the Pirates won the set 25-20. The next two sets, the Pirates won 25-13 and 25-12.
"They were very good," summed up Hefta. "The first set was really good – it was back and forth. We played really, really well."
