Comets fly by Eagles

The Underwood Comets started their 2014 season off with a bang last Friday night, routing the New Town Eagles by the score of 3-0 in their first match of the season.

The Eagles played the Comets to 25-20 in game one, but that would be the closest the Eagles would get as the Comets’ servers as well as combo of setters and hitters dominated the next two games, giving the Comets 25-16 and 25-14 wins.

"It was good to get that first win," said Comet coach Mary Hefta.

While the score may indicate a rout, Hefta gave kudos to New Town’s defense.

"They were a very scrappy defensive team," she said. "They didn’t let many balls drop.

"I told the girls they’re not just going to lay down . . . they fought hard," added Hefta.
