Comets return scrappy players

The Comet girls’ basketball team will be looking to fill the shoes of graduate Brooke Weisenburger this year as they head to the hard court this Friday in Wilton. The Comet hoopsters will take on Glen Ullin in their season opener, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
Returning for the Comets to lead the way are seniors Maria Wirtz, Mackenzie Snyder and McKenna Wilson.
Taysha Snyder, a sophomore, is another returning starter, while senior Kaylie Wilson and Maggie Eng look to be taking turns filling the guard position left vacant by Weisenburger.
The Comets should be scrappy this year, according to Head Coach Jared Kautzman – defense is their go-to offense.
“Getting turnovers and trying to transition into an easy bucket is what we try to do,” said Kautzman.
Leading the way in the defensive take-aways will be the Snyder sisters, senior Mackenzie and sophomore Taysha. Working in the paint to bring down the boards and stop some shots will be senior post Maria Wirtz.
