The Underwood Comets started the 2019-20 season with a bang, capturing the championship of the Velva Invitational just before the holiday break.
The Comets outlasted Minot’s Our Redeemer’s for the title last Saturday, winning the game by the score of 46-43 on the wings of a 24-point, 12-rebound effort from tournament MVP Kayden Hornberger.
The Comets’ shots weren’t falling from the perimeter, so the Comets capitalized on their size in the paint, scoring from the inside.  Adding to Hornberger’s 24 points was 6-3 center Parker Christensen who tossed in 11 points and forward Ty Snyder, who was good for 11 points, despite spending a good chunk of time on the sidelines with foul trouble the first half.
The Comets trailed 23-19 at the half, but used its strength inside to gain the upper hand the second half.
