Comets thump Aggies

After a slow start, the home-standing Underwood Comets blew past the Velva Aggies Friday night, winning by the score of 54-35 as the Comets picked up win number three for the season.
There was a short break in the action at the end of the third quarter as fans stood on their feet to applaud senior Taysha Snyder, who knocked down her 1000th and 1001st career points at the buzzer of the third stanza.
Snyder would toss in four more points the final stanza on her way to 25 points for the game, and 1005 thus far in her high school career.
While Snyder’s offense took center stage for a bit during Friday’s game, it was Velva’s scrappy defense that was the focal point during much of the game. The scrappy defense led to a lot of trips to the charity stripe for the Comets, who knocked down 18 of 33 free shots.
That same scrappy defense could be credited for some of Underwood’s 21 turnovers, noted Comet Head Coach Gary Ballard.
