Comets topple the Troopers

By Mary Hefta, Sports Writer

When teams have rounded scoring from several players they are usually successful. The Underwood Comets girls basketball team has found success with several players scoring and rebounding in double figures. This makes for an exciting game not only for the fans but for the coach. Head coach Toni Cottingham is very proud of the play she is getting from her entire team. "I really like the defensive intensity that we had during the entire game," she said. "The girls are doing a great job of getting after it." She added, "We kept our turnovers to nine while forcing the Troopers into 26 turnovers." Three Comets were in double figures in scoring. Senior Crystal Dammen led all scoring with 15 points while juniors Miranda Pochant and Alix Auck each tossed in 13 points. Junior Tami Heidelberger added eight points while senior Natalie Eslinger had three points. Junior reserve Chlorisa Hirschkorn, freshman Caitlyn Berg and eighth grader Abby Landenberger each added a bucket in the district victory.
