Comets turned back with turnovers

Turnovers proved to be the Comets’ Achilles heel last Tuesday night when they turned the ball over on seven straight possessions in the final minutes of the District 10 basketball game against Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky.
The Trojans capitalized on those turnovers, cashing in on some quick buckets and rolling to the 47-43 win over the home-standing Underwood team.
“We played well defensively,” commented Underwood Head Coach Alex Jangula. “The difference of the game was we made seven straight turnovers in the fourth quarter, and that kind of cost us at the end.
“They’re a good defensive team, they played a tough zone,” he added. “They’re quick and they caused problems, but it wasn’t anything we didn’t expect. We just made some mistakes.”
The Comets led 16-12 at the first break, but allowed the Trojans to turn the tables, taking a 30-27 lead into the half-time break.
By the end of three stanzas, the Trojans led by just three, and they were able to hold on thanks in part to the miscues by the Comets.
