Comets win battle for second seed

It was a battle for who would earn a bye and the second seed in this coming week’s District 10 tournament when Underwood hosted Turtle Lake-Mercer in volleyball last Tuesday.
And a battle it was, as the two teams had some huge rallies sending the ball back and forth before someone would win the point. Underwood found a way to take the majority of those points, winning the match 3-1.
"Tall girls at the net playing good defense caused us some troubles, "said Underwood Coach Mary Hefta. "I do think we remained calm, and because we were able to keep our composure, we pulled out the win."
"It is my guess that if we played again it would be anyone’s match," she added.
Underwood was paced by senior Erin Dammann, who tallied 11 aces, one block, 11 assists, eight digs and three aces.
Pointing out that Turtle Lake-Mercer had some really strong servers, particularly Tasha Williams, who had five aces, Underwood was able to counter not only with its own strong servers, led by Brooke Weisenberger’s four aces, but with some power and finesse at the net.
