Comets win Region 5 opener

With about three seconds left.
That’s when Underwood Coach Jared Kautzman felt like his Comet team had Monday night’s Region 5 game sewn up.
Leading 55-46, when the ball was across half-court, and senior guard Mackenzie Snyder was just standing with the ball rather than going for the score – that’s when Kautzman felt confident his team would take the win and advance to the semifinal round.
“We knew it would be a tough test,” said Kautzman.
After leading 24-22 going into the second half, the Comets increased their lead to six when Taysha Snyder scored from underneath to start the third stanza, followed by a quick end-to-end score from sister Mackenzie Snyder. The two then teamed up for another when Mackenzie dished to Taysha for the score underneath, giving the Comets the 30-22 lead.
The Sioux roared back before the quarter would end, trailing by just one at the end of three stanzas, 38-37.
