Cottingham takes helm of boys hoops team

Underwood’s Steve Cottingham has been seen along the sidelines of the basketball court for several years, but this year he will be taking on different coaching duties, as he takes over as head coach of the boys basketball team, resigning his position as assistant girls coach. Cottingham takes over following the resignation of former boys head coach Kyle Hunt. Cottingham has been assistant coach of the girls team for 10 years alongside his wife and head coach Toni Cottingham, and he figured now was the right time for him to make a change. Cottingham worked with this year’s varsity players when they were in elementary school, and when a coach hadn’t been hired yet this fall, it just seemed right to take over now that they’re varsity. “I just wanted to see some kind of stability for these kids and for the seniors we’ve got this year,” said Cottingham.
