The Central McLean Cougar gridders picked up their first win of the year this past Friday, knocking off the home-standing Standing Rock Warriors 34-8 to notch their first 11-man win. It was a big win for the young Cougar team, agreed Cougar coaches Kurt Ziebarth and Kevin Dockter.
"I was really happy with our offense Friday night," said Ziebarth, who is at the helm of the Cougar offense. "We were able to move the ball on the ground early which opened up our passing game a bit. It was exciting to see quite a few of our players get scoring plays Friday night. "Everyone stepped up to play well," added Ziebarth.
The Cougars struck twice in the first quarter, first scoring with a pass when quarterback Hunter Jacobs connected with Tanner Freeman for a nine-yard score. Jacobs then scored on a short two-yard jaunt to put the Cougars up at the end of one 13-0.
