Cougar relay first at state
BY ALYSSA MEIER
Central McLean girls had reason to celebrate after bringing home gold in one varsity relay event at state this weekend.
The Cougars placed first in the girls 400 meter relay, which was run by Lexie Jo Jacobson, Anna Skachenko, Natalie Whitcomb and Taya Hornberger. The feat serves as the first ever state championship win for Central McLean.
“In one of the meet’s most exciting races, Taya Hornberger, running the anchor leg, leaned at the perfect moment to help her teammates, first leg Lexie Jo Jacobson, second leg Anna Skachenko and third leg Natalie Whitcomb secure the state championship, as well as set the CMC record at 4:12.37,” Coach Ron Slaba said of the winning relay.
