Cougar track progressing nicely

By Mary Hefta, Sports Writer

The Cougar boys track team has been very successful so far this season. After just five track meets senior Grant Singer has qualified for the discus and fellow senior Devon Auck has qualified for the 100-meter run. Head coach Lee Weisgarber is also happy with the way his boys relay teams are flirting with qualifying as well. "We have so many events that are so close to qualifying and that makes it very exciting," he said. The Cougars had three meets this past week and there were highlights from each. In Hazen last Tuesday, senior Grant Singer qualified in the discus with a throw of 142.10. "It was a huge throw," Weisgarber praised. "Grant placed first, second, third and fifth in his events. He was a big scorer for us." Junior Jacob Ruff also ran well and placed first in the 400-meter run. His time was just shy of qualifying. "He ran a great race, but I know he has a faster time in him," Weisgarber added. On Thursday the Cougars traveled to Rugby. Senior Devon Auck won the 400-meter run and Weisgarber looked forward to a qualifying time for him as well. "Devon ran a great race," Weisgarber said. "And he, too, is very close to qualifying."
