Cougar tracksters have a lot to be proud of

By Mary Hefta, Sports Writer

Head Cougar track coach Lee Weisgarber has a lot to smile about these days. The last two track meets have been sunny, windy as well but it’s expected, it didn’t rain at the regional track meet last Saturday and his track team made great strides over the weekend to up the amount of kids that can participate in the state track meet this weekend at the Bismarck Bowl. To top it all off, Coach Weisgarber was recognized by his peers as the Region 5 Coach of the Year. Weisgarber was thrilled over the efforts of all of his athletes this past weekend. "I was very pleased with the effort of our girls. Overall they placed fourth in the region behind a dominating Hazen team, Washburn came up with some strong performances in the field events and Linton/HMB slipped into the third spot," Weisgarber said. He also praised the running of senior Jenna Bayless. "Jenna ran an excellent 100-meter dash and placed second, qualifying her for state," he said. Bayless also placed in the 200-meter dash and ran a leg on the sixth place 400-meter relay. The senior leader also placed third in the high jump matching her best jump of the season at 4’11".
