Cougar tracksters looking for big state bill

Thirty-three athletes make up the Central McLean Cougars track team this year, with the Cougars eyeing an increased number of athletes qualifying for the state meet by the end of the season.
There are 21 boys on the varsity team, 12-ish (one is injured) on the girls team, and plenty of potential for state appearances both individually and as relay teams.
Returners leading the way include runners Taysha Snyder, Kayleigh Naser, Lexie Jacobson, Taya Hornberger, and Lilly Eng, who all raced at state last year. Junior Maggie Eng missed last season because of an injury, but is back this year and expected to compete well both individually and as a member of the relays.
Thrower Parker Christenson and hurdler Mason Hornberger will be looking to get back to state, and boys coach Ty Kruger expecting to take several more athletes to state this year.
“Nathan Sims should do something in throwing this year, and Kayden Hornberger and Ty Snyder should do well for running and jumping for us,” said Kruger.
On the girls’ side, girls coach Brenda Schantz is looking for even more success this year as her runners bring another year of experience to the track.
