Cougars baseball hangs on through rough road

By Michael Johnson, Editor

The Central McLean Cougars baseball team has been making the rounds, playing teams like Max-Sawyer-South Prairie, Beulah, Velva, Shiloh and Hazen. Each game has been testing the team’s skills, and injuries have slowed progress. The Cougars dropped Max-Sawyer-South Prairie 12-3 and 16-4 on April 26. They lost to the Beulah Miners 10-1 and 13-2 on April 29. They lost 8-2 and 16-0 against Velva on May 3. They lost to Hazen on May 5 and lost to Shiloh Christian on May 7. Those losses don’t reflect the fine pitching the team has put together according to coach AnDrew Zurcher.  “We have gotten good outings from most of our starters, but the fielding errors have been damaging to our ability to compete,” Zurcher said. With a few adjustments to the fielding, Zurcher feels that the team can still get in the middle of the standings by the time the region tournaments comes around.
