Cougars battle tough fields at Garrison and Vardon Golf Invites
The Central McLean Cougars boys golf team competed in back-to-back tournaments last week, taking on strong Region 4 fields at the Garrison Invite on April 29 and the Vardon Meet on May 2.
At the Garrison Invite, held at the Garrison Golf Course, the Cougars posted a team score of +25, finishing just three strokes behind host Garrison Troopers (+28) in an event dominated by Harvey-Wells County. The Hornets claimed first place with a team total of 306 (+18), finishing well ahead of Rugby (337) and Northern Lights (340).
Freshman Carter Johnson led Central McLean at Garrison, carding a 97 (+25) to place 39th overall in a deep field of Region 4 competitors.
Later in the week, the Cougars traveled to the Vardon Golf Club in Minot for another challenging meet.
Johnson again led the team, shooting a 102 (+30) to finish 51st.
