Cougars boys continue winning streak
The Central McLean Cougars boys basketball team kept its unbeaten season rolling with two decisive wins during the week of Jan. 5, showcasing efficient shooting, defensive discipline, and impressive depth as they continued to build momentum in both district and regional play.
The Cougars opened the week on the road against Surrey.
From the outset, Central McLean dictated the pace and tempo, ultimately posting a 91 to 47 win.
Surrey’s preference for an up-tempo style with quick perimeter attempts provided the Cougars with additional possessions, allowing their offense to stretch out and rack up points.
Head Coach Joi Anderson noted that Surrey’s approach played into Central McLean’s strengths.
“Surrey was a young team, and they like to play more of a running game and put up quick shots,” Anderson said. “This resulted in more possessions for us and more opportunities to score which definitely contributed to our high score.”
The win also reinforced the Cougars’ identity on both ends of the floor.
According to Anderson, the group’s unselfishness and balanced scoring have been major components of their early-season success. “We are very team-centric and very non-selfish players,” Anderson said. “We are shooting well from the 3 point line which forces the defense to defend the perimeter. This opens up the inside creating shot opportunities there.”
