Cougars compete at NSAGU Invite in New Salem
The Central McLean Cougars girls golf team continued its early-season schedule Aug. 28 competing against a strong field at the NSAGU Invite at Red Trail Links in New Salem.
Central McLean had two golfers in the 32-player field, with juniors Hayden Bassett and Kendal Lelm representing the Cougars.
Bassett led Central McLean on the day, finishing 29th overall with a round of 121, 49 strokes over par. Lelm followed in 32nd place after carding a 126, finishing 54 over par.
With only two golfers recording scores, Central McLean did not qualify for the team standings at the tournament.
Heart River came away with the team championship after putting together a score of 359, 71 over par. The Cougars held a sizable advantage over the remainder of the team field.
New Salem-Almont Glen Ullin finished runner-up on its home course with a team score of 401, 113 over par. Hazen was close behind in third place with a 405, while Beulah rounded out the qualifying team standings in fourth with a score of 438.
