Cougars cruise past Beulah in season opener
The Central McLean Cougars opened the 2026 football season in commanding fashion, defeating the Beulah Miners 40-6 Friday, Aug. 21, at Turtle Lake-Mercer High School.
After more than two weeks of preseason preparation, Head Coach Grant Singer said his players were eager to finally line up against an opponent and see how their work in practice would translate to game action.
“I think the kids were ready to finally play a game,” Singer said. “We started practice on August 6th, so it gets to be a lot of practice before they can play in an actual game.”
That excitement directly translated into a dominant opening performance on the field.
Central McLean controlled the contest on both sides of the ball, scoring 40 points while holding Beulah to a single touchdown.
The Cougars’ ability to build a comfortable advantage allowed them to settle into the game and begin the new season on a positive note. The 34-point margin also reflected a complete team effort in Central McLean’s first meaningful action of the fall.
