Cougars dominate opening week with back-to-back road wins
The Central McLean Cougars girls’ basketball team could not have scripted a stronger opening week to their 2025 campaign, powering through two lengthy road trips and returning home with a pair of decisive victories.
With a 61–22 win at Hettinger-Scranton on Tuesday, December 2, and a 70–34 rout of Mandaree on Dec. 5, the Cougars wasted no time establishing themselves as a fast, disciplined, and opportunistic team capable of dictating pace from start to finish.
Despite having limited floor time prior to entering live competition, Central McLean showed cohesion far beyond its early-season timeline.
Head Coach Kipp Sparrow praised his players for embracing the challenge of beginning the year with back-to-back away games and relying on effort, tempo, and defensive intensity to set the tone.
“We’ve had limited practices up to these games, and we felt as a team that we could still control the game through hard work and quick transition,” Sparrow said. “The kids will need to continue to learn various roles within our offenses and defenses, but it has been a nice start to the season.”
