Cougars embrace growth with young girls golf roster
The Central McLean Cougars girls golf team enters the 2026 season with a small roster, but Head Coach Sam Slavik has already been encouraged by the effort and improvement he has seen during the opening days of practice.
Central McLean will field just four golfers this season, matching the size of last year’s group. While the numbers may be limited, Slavik said each member of the team has shown a willingness to put in the work needed to improve.
“We are a small crew of 4 this year again,” Slavik said. “All four are willing to work and have already made some improvements over the first week of practice.”
That early progress will be important for a Cougars team that enters the fall with limited varsity experience.
Central McLean’s roster consists of three juniors and one freshman, with two of those juniors competing in their first season of high school golf. While a few players return from last year, much of the lineup will still be learning the finer points of the game as the season progresses.
